Celebrating 25 years of Bardot, Sally looks back on Popstars, the band’s defining moments and the enduring connection people still have with the music, while reflecting on what that extraordinary chapter means to her today.
BARDOT: MUSIC, MEDIA & CULTURAL MOMENTS
Bardot began as part of the first Australian series of Popstars and quickly became a defining moment in Australian pop culture. Our debut single, Poison, and self-titled album both entered the charts at number one, followed by two albums, international performances and a collection of songs that people still hold close today.
For me, Bardot was a chapter of extraordinary opportunity, visibility and creative growth. It taught me about performance, collaboration, identity and what it means to experience success while still discovering who you are.
RETURNING TO THE STAGE
In 2026, more than two decades after our last performance together, I reunited with Belinda, Katie and Tiffani for Mighty Hoopla; first at Bondi Beach in Sydney and later at Brockwell Park in London.
Returning to songs we had created in another lifetime was surreal, joyful and deeply moving. It wasn’t about trying to recreate the women we had been. It was an opportunity to honour what we created, the people who carried the music with them and the women we had each become.
Hearing thousands of people sing those songs back to us reminded me that creative work can continue living in other people long after we have moved into new chapters of our own.
